Welcome

Welcome to sub.sist.

This site is dedicated to thinking about architecture in relation to Maori in different ways, exploring alternative avenues of research and drivers for design.

Why is this necessary? For a discipline that is so closely related to the land, architecture has only drawn on a limited set relationships that Maori have with the land. Residing in a country whose history is dominated by the interaction between cultures, only a small set of these interactions have been drawn on by architects.

This is about the political, the [sub]versive, the re[sist]ant.
